Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is ARENA, a single-member limited company (EURL) registered in France and trading as Exam Arena. Registered office and company number: 229 rue de Solférino, 59000 Lille, France — SIREN 934 277 344, RCS Lille Métropole.

ARENA took over this site in 2026 from its previous owner. If you subscribed to email alerts before then, ARENA now handles your subscription under this policy, within the consent you gave at the time: police pay updates only. You will not receive offers unless you give that separate consent.

Calculator data

The calculators run entirely in your browser. Salary figures, allowances, tax codes and any other inputs are never sent to our servers. Some preferences (theme, cookie choice, Shift Planner entries, whether you have already subscribed) are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. You can clear them at any time from your browser settings.

Email alerts

If you sign up for pay award alerts, we collect your email address, the date and time of your consent, the page you signed up from, and whether you also asked for offers (see below).

• Purpose: emailing you police pay updates, such as a new pay award or an update to the calculators.
• Legal basis: your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
• Retention: until you unsubscribe. After that, we keep only a record that the address unsubscribed, so we do not email it again.

You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.

Offers (separate, optional consent)

Signing up for pay alerts does not mean you will receive offers. Every signup form has a second, optional box, unticked by default, to also receive occasional offers on promotion-exam preparation and money tools for officers, from Police Take Home Pay and our partner brand Join The Cops (also published by ARENA).

• Legal basis: your separate consent (Article 6(1)(a)). We only send offers if you ticked that box.
• Withdrawal: at any time, by emailing eliott@examarena.com or by unsubscribing. Withdrawing does not affect the lawfulness of emails sent before.
• Retention: until you withdraw that consent or unsubscribe.

We never sell your email address, and we never pass it to another company for that company's own marketing. If an offer concerns a partner, we send it ourselves.

Cookies and analytics

We use two analytics tools: a cookieless visit count for every visitor, and Google Analytics only if you accept cookies.

Umami: cookieless visit count

We use Umami, open-source analytics that we host ourselves on our own server (Hostinger, Paris, France), to count page views and how the site is used, for example how many visitors use a calculator, sign up for alerts or click through to an offer. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so it runs without the cookie banner. For each page view it receives the page address (with calculator values and other query parameters removed, except campaign tags such as utm_source), the referring site, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and an approximate location (country, region, city) derived from your IP address. Your IP address is used for that and to count visits with a one-way anonymous identifier; it is not stored. Events sent to Umami describe what was used (which tool, form or link, the type of page, how far you scrolled, and the words typed in the site search) and never contain your email address or the figures you enter.

• Purpose: aggregated statistics to understand which pages and tools are useful and to improve the site. Not used for advertising or profiling, and not combined with data from other sites.
• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in measuring and improving the site (Article 6(1)(f)).
• Opt out: use the button below. It saves a single setting in this browser, and your visits are no longer counted.

Google Analytics 4 (only if you accept cookies)

We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC / Google Ireland) to measure which pages are used, how visitors arrive and which tools they use. It is loaded only after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner; if you decline, no analytics script is loaded. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and processes an online identifier, device and browser information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address.

• Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) and the PECR rules on cookies).
• Retention: analytics data is kept for no more than 14 months.
• Change your mind: use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. Declining cookies stops Google Analytics; it does not affect the cookieless Umami count, which has its own opt-out above.

We do not serve adverts and do not use advertising cookies.

Pro Shift Planner payments

If you buy a Pro Shift Planner subscription, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. To unlock Pro on your device, or to restore a purchase, the site checks your email address or checkout reference with Stripe and saves the result in your browser.

• Legal basis: performance of the contract (Article 6(1)(b)), and our legal obligations for accounting records (Article 6(1)(c)).
• Retention: for the life of the subscription, then accounting records for as long as French law requires (10 years).

Hosting, security and server logs

The site is hosted by Vercel. When you visit a page or submit a form, the server processes technical data (IP address, browser user agent, requested address, time). We use it to run the site, to limit abuse of the forms (rate limiting) and to investigate errors.

• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working site (Article 6(1)(f)).
• Retention: server logs are kept for a short period, no more than 30 days.

Service providers (processors)

We use the following providers, which process data on our behalf and under our instructions:

• Vercel Inc. (United States): hosting and server logs.
• Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., United States / EU region Ireland): email alert list, newsletters and internal signup notifications.
• Google (Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC, United States): analytics, only after consent.
• Hostinger International Ltd (server in Paris, France): hosts our self-hosted Umami cookieless visit count.
• Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd / Stripe, Inc., United States): payments for Pro.

Transfers outside the UK and the EU

Several of these providers are based in, or process data in, the United States. These transfers are protected by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (the "UK-US data bridge") where the provider is certified, or otherwise by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. You can ask us for a copy of the relevant safeguards at eliott@examarena.com.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased;
• restrict or object to its processing;
• receive your data in a portable format;
• withdraw any consent at any time (pay alerts, offers, analytics cookies), and object to the cookieless visit count.

To exercise any of these rights, email eliott@examarena.com. We reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK. As ARENA is established in France, you can also complain to the French authority, the CNIL.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when we add new features or services; the date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. If a change affects how we use your email address, we will tell subscribers by email before it applies, and we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
